Seven Types of Shots

A "shot" refers to the action of hitting the shuttlecock with the racket in an attempt to make it cross over the net and land on the opponent's court. There are SEVEN types of shots in badminton: serve, clear, drop, lift, drive, smash, and net. These shots are used strategically during a game to outmaneuver and outscore the opponent.

Serve

A serve marks the beginning of a game. While serving may appear to be a simple and unremarkable part of a badminton game, its significance cannot be overstated. A well-executed serve sets the tone for subsequent shots, potentially leading to a successful point, while a poor serve can quickly put the server at a disadvantage and ultimately cost them the point.

The high serve is hit deep into the opponent's court and is used to create space between the players. The low serve is hit close to the net and used to force the opponent to play a defensive return shot. The flick serve is a deceptive serve where the player pretends to hit a low serve but instead hits a high serve. The drive serve is hit hard and fast, aimed at catching the opponent off guard.

To become a skilled server in badminton, players must practice their serves regularly to perfect their technique and accuracy. It's also important to be aware of the rules governing the serve to avoid committing a fault and giving the opponent a point.
