Seven Types of Shots
A "shot" refers to the action of hitting the shuttlecock with the racket in an attempt to make it cross over the net and land on the opponent's court. There are SEVEN types of shots in badminton: serve, clear, drop, lift, drive, smash, and net. These shots are used strategically during a game to outmaneuver and outscore the opponent.
Drop
The drop shot is a soft shot that just clears the net and lands close to the net, catching the opponent offguard and forcing them to move forward quickly. Thus, making it difficult for them to return the shuttlecock.
There are two types of drop shots in badminton - the slow drop and the fast drop.
The slow drop shot is a more delicate and subtle shot where the shuttlecock is hit with a soft touch to land just over the net. The player should use a short swing and a gentle touch to create a slow and steep trajectory. The slow drop shot is usually used to change the pace of the game and to force the opponent to move forward to the net, creating an opportunity to attack.
On the other hand, the fast drop shot is a more attacking shot where the shuttlecock is hit with speed and power to land just over the net. The player should use a longer swing and a faster racket speed to create a flatter trajectory. The fast drop shot is usually used to surprise the opponent and to catch them off guard, as it requires quick reflexes to return the shuttlecock.
Both the slow drop and the fast drop shots are effective in different situations in the game. The slow drop shot is usually used when the opponent is in a defensive position, while the fast drop shot is used when the opponent is in a more neutral or attacking position. A skilled player should be able to execute both types of drop shots effectively to keep the opponent guessing and to create opportunities to win points.
